The School of Materials and chemical engineering of Hubei University of Technology was founded in 1978. Over the past 40 years, the College has adhered to the school running philosophy of "people-oriented, quality based, characteristic based and harmonious", and has achieved leapfrog development. The college has "four departments and one center", namely, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the Department of Materials Forming and control engineering, the Department of Light Chemical Engineering, the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and the Experimental Center of the School of Materials and Chemistry.

The college has a strong faculty. There are currently 125 faculty and staff members. There are 95 full-time teachers, including 27 professors, 35 associate professors, andone academician of the Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. The college has a group of discipline leaders and young scholars who have a certain influence in China.

The college has a good teaching and research platform, with a building area of nearly 12239.8 square meters, distributed in the biochemical building, light industry building, training building, and mechanical building, and the value of instruments and equipment is nearly 50 million yuan. The college has established the advantageous disciplines of light industry technology and engineering in Hubei Province, the key disciplines of material science and engineering in Hubei Province, and the key disciplines of chemical engineering and technology at the school level; Among them, light industry technology and engineering are authorized disciplines for doctoral programs, and materials science and engineering are disciplines for the construction of doctoral programs in the school. The college has established provincial-level scientific research platforms such as the Hubei Key Laboratory of Green Light Industrial Materials, the Hubei Engineering Laboratory of Automotive Lightweight Materials and Processing, the Hubei Engineering Research Center for Rubber and Plastic Materials and Forming Processing, and the Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center for Green Catalytic Materials. It also has the Hubei Chemical Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and the Hubei Light Industry Technology and Engineering Graduate Education Innovation Base, And three graduate workstations jointly built by schools and enterprises in Hubei Province. Various platforms provide excellent teaching and research conditions for multi-level cultivation of undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. In the past five years, the college has undertaken a number of national level scientific research projects, including 973, major international scientific and technological innovation cooperation projects, the National Science and Technology Support Plan, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It has formed certain characteristics in research fields such as polymer material molding and equipment, micro nano high strength soft material composites, lightweight materials and surface modification processing for vehicles, and plant fiber resource recycling and reuse, We have achieved a number of influential scientific research achievements and are at an advanced level in the field of green and lightweight materials and processing in China.

The college has five undergraduate majors: polymer materials and engineering, material science and engineering, material molding and control engineering, light chemical engineering, chemical engineering and technology. Among them, Polymer Materials and Engineering is a brand major in Hubei Province, as well as a talent cultivation plan for strategic emerging industries in Hubei Province, the "Jingchu Excellent Talents" collaborative education plan for ordinary undergraduate universities in Hubei Province, and a pilot major for comprehensive professional reform in Hubei Province. Additionally, one provincial-level internship and training demonstration base has been built; In recent years, the material forming and control engineering has also been approved as a talent training plan for strategic emerging industries in Hubei Province and a pilot project for comprehensive professional reform in Hubei Province; Light Chemical Engineering is a major in the talent training program for strategic emerging industries in Hubei Province. Polymer materials and engineering, material forming and control engineering, and chemical engineering and technology have passed the certification of China's engineering education, and have been approved as a national first-class undergraduate specialty construction site. The Materials Science and Engineering major has been approved as a provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction site.

The college actively innovates talent cultivation models and implements a broad caliber and solid foundation talent cultivation plan. Students have high comprehensive quality, strong innovation ability, and a strong learning atmosphere. The admission rate of students for the postgraduate entrance examination and the employment rate of graduates have been among the top in the entire school for many consecutive years. Students have repeatedly achieved excellent results and achieved remarkable results in various levels of scientific and technological innovation competitions, such as the "Challenge Cup" National College Student Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, National Chemical Design Competition, National College Student Metallographic Skills Competition, and National Polymer Materials Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. Among the eight major industries of economic development in Hubei Province, the five majors of Materials and chemical engineering College are consistent with them, and students have broad employment prospects.

The college has extensive academic exchanges and cooperation both domestically and internationally, and has established cooperative relationships with universities and research institutions in multiple countries, including the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in the United States, Loughborough University in the UK, Stockholm University in Sweden, University of Waterloo in Canada, and Georgia Institute of Technology in the United States; We maintain close contact and extensive academic exchanges and cooperation with multiple related universities (departments) and research institutions in China, including Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Sichuan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University of Technology, and South China University of Technology. In recent years, the college has jointly established industry-university-research cooperation bases with many well-known domestic enterprises, including Dongfeng Motor Group, CRRC Corporation of China, Hubei Foster Group, Zhejiang Jiaxing Minshi Group, Wanbang Special Materials Co., Ltd., and Jinhongye Paper Industry (Hubei) Co., Ltd. For more than 40 years, the graduates cultivated by the School of Materials and chemical engineering have made positive contributions to the national economy and social development and won a good social reputation.
